Congress has started a new chapter on the soil of Gujarat with its historic All India Congress Committee Mahaadhiveshan. This convention, held in Gujarat after 64 years, was organized in Ahmedabad on Tuesday and Wednesday. Congress chose this occasion not only to strengthen its organizational strength, but also presented it as the beginning of its return to the BJP stronghold. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge gave the message of organizational strength, attack on BJP, and focus on public issues through their speeches. This convention was based on the theme of ‘Nyayapath: Sankalp, Samarpan and Sangharsh’.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that ‘RSS BJP are attacking the Constitution every day. This is a battle of ideology, so only the Congress party can stop them. Only Congress will defeat RSS-BJP.’

Congress is looking at this convention not just as an organizational event but as a big mission to return to its roots and chart the future path. This meeting was held at Sardar Patel Memorial on Sabarmati Riverfront, a place associated with the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel.

Many important decisions were taken in the discussions held for two days in the convention. On the first day, on Tuesday, a meeting of the Congress Working Committee was held, in which emphasis was laid on changes in the organization and strengthening at the grassroots level. More than 1700 delegates participated in the full session of the Congress on Wednesday. In this, decisions like empowering the District Congress Committees, increasing public engagement on issues like unemployment, inflation and protection of the Constitution and announcing the start of ‘Samvidhan Bachao Yatra’ were taken.

What did Rahul Gandhi say?

In his speech, Rahul Gandhi linked Gujarat to the roots of Congress and made sharp attacks on BJP.

* Rahul said that Gujarat is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, from where the ideology of Congress was born. He called it a symbolic and emotional beginning for the party.

* He said, ‘Gujarat is the land from where the ideology of Congress started. From here we will again give new energy to the organization.’

*He termed BJP as anti-Constitution and anti-democracy. Rahul alleged that BJP has made Gujarat a den of “fear and division”, while Congress wants to take it towards justice and unity.

*Rahul said, ‘BJP tried to snatch the soul of Gujarat. We will bring it back.’

Earlier also Rahul had told the workers in Gujarat that such people in the party who work for BJP will have to be “filtered”. In this convention also, he emphasized on strengthening the organization at the grassroots level and connecting with the public.

What did Mallikarjun Kharge say

*Kharge targeted BJP and RSS in his concluding speech and gave strong messages to the organization.

*Kharge said that BJP and RSS distorted the legacy of Gandhi and Patel and attacked constitutional values.

*He said, ‘Modi tried to erase Nehru’s legacy. BJP is selling public property only to benefit its friends.’

*Kharge clearly said that those who do not contribute to the party’s work should now rest. He and Rahul together decided that the role of district presidents will be increased in the selection of candidates in future.

*Kharge said, ‘Those who do not work will have to look for the way out. We will empower the district presidents.’

*Kharge raised the issues of inflation, unemployment and small traders. He said that Congress will become the voice of the people on these issues and will make the government accountable.

*Kharge alleged that BJP weakened constitutional institutions in the last 11 years. He asked the workers to fight to save these values.

*Pranati Shinde’s statement that ‘Congress’s blood is mixed in the soil of Gujarat’ and Deepender Hooda’s salutation to the birthplace of Gandhi-Patel shows the party’s effort to re-establish its historical glory. This is an emotional appeal, which tries to connect the old relationship with the people of Gujarat.

*The talk of saving the Constitution came to the fore. This is a way of attacking the BJP, which the Congress has been calling anti-constitution. The statement of ‘strategy to move forward with ideology’ shows that this meeting was a platform to make a concrete plan.

Four main strategies of the party

Strengthening the organization: Activating the leadership at the district and taluka level.

Focus on public issues: Taking issues like unemployment and inflation to the public.

Emotional connection: Making Gandhi and Patel’s legacy a weapon against the BJP.

Attempt at alliance: Talk of strengthening the India Alliance, although it looks weak right now.

This meeting is like a reset button for the Congress. It can fill the workers with enthusiasm. The party can move forward based on the victory in Banaskantha.

It is clear from the Gujarat Mahaadhiveshan that the Congress wants to return to its roots and is dreaming of snatching Gujarat from the BJP. This meeting is an emotional and strategic beginning, but success will depend on whether the party is able to turn its resolution into reality. The journey to 2027 is long, and it remains to be seen whether the Congress will be able to break the ‘invincible fort’ of the BJP in Gujarat. And it will also be important to see whether the party is able to bring about big changes and give a big challenge to the BJP at the national level!
