President appoints 6 new governors, reshuffles 3

President Draupadi Murmu has appointed governors of nine states. Of these, six new governors have been appointed while 3 others have been reshuffled. Former Maharashtra speaker Haribahu Bagde, former Union minister Santosh Gangwar and senior BJP leader OP Mathur and former Mysore MP CH Vijayshankar are among the six new governors who have been appointed.
A release issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said that these appointments will be effective from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.
Former Gujarat Chief Secretary K Kailashnathan, considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been appointed Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Former Maharashtra Speaker Bagde has been appointed Governor of Rajasthan. Maharashtra is a state where the BJP suffered a severe defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. The state also witnessed the Maratha reservation agitation, which caused a lot of trouble to the government.
Senior BJP leader Santosh Gangwar will visit Jharkhand Raj Bhavan. Gangwar was not given a ticket to contest from Bareilly in the recently held Lok Sabha elections after winning the seat six times in a row. Mathur has been appointed Governor of Sikkim.
Former Tripura Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed Governor of Telangana while Ramen Deka will become Governor of Chhattisgarh. Vijay Shankar will be the Governor of Meghalaya.

The Modi government also transferred three governors to new states. Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan has been transferred to Maharashtra while Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has been sent to Punjab. Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit resigned. Kataria will replace Purohit. Kataria has also been appointed as the administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Sikkim Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya has been appointed as the Governor of Assam and has also been given the additional charge of Governor of Manipur.
