Several explosions were heard in Lahore, shelling continues along LoC

According to Reuters and local media, several loud explosions rocked Lahore, Pakistan, on Thursday, triggering air raid sirens and sending residents fleeing from their homes. The incident occurred just a day after India launched strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan under Operation ‘Sindoor,’ carried out in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.
Local reports say the blasts were heard in Lahore’s Gopal Nagar and Nasirabad areas, near Walton Airport. Images from the scene showed residents panicking, rushing into the streets, and plumes of smoke rising into the sky.

The affected area borders Lahore’s upscale Central Business District and the Army Cantonment. Following the incident, flight operations at Sialkot, Karachi, and Lahore airports were reportedly suspended as a precaution.
Police sources told Samaa TV that the explosions may have been caused by a drone roughly 5–6 feet in length. They added that the drone was likely neutralized by electronic jamming systems. So far, no casualties or damage to civilian infrastructure have been reported.
Flights Suspended
Flight operations at Karachi, Lahore, and Sialkot airports have been temporarily halted, Reuters reported, citing Pakistan’s Airports Authority.
Cross-LoC Firing Intensifies
Tensions remain high along the Line of Control (LoC), with Pakistani forces opening fire late Wednesday night across the border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. This comes just a day after India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror infrastructure across the border. On Tuesday, reports indicated at least 15 fatalities on the Indian side. According to Indian Army officials, Pakistani posts engaged in “unprovoked firing using small arms and artillery” across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors. They added, “The Indian Army responded proportionately.”
Missile Debris Found in Amritsar Village
Panic spread in Jethuwal village, located on the Amritsar-Batala road, early Thursday when villagers discovered missile fragments scattered across fields and near homes. Thankfully, no casualties or property damage were reported. Villagers said the debris fell around 1:30 a.m. A 5-foot cylindrical missile section was found in the fields of farmers Baldev Singh and Makhan Singh. Amritsar (Rural) SSP Maninder Singh stated, “We cannot confirm whether the debris belongs to an Indian or Pakistani missile. There was no explosion or ground impact. Villagers simply found the pieces and alerted the police. Forensic and army teams are now investigating.”
Rajasthan, Punjab on High Alert; Borders Sealed
Following India’s missile strikes, Rajasthan and Punjab have been placed on high alert. All police leave has been canceled, public gatherings banned, and local authorities are bracing for any potential Pakistani response. Rajasthan, which shares a 1,037 km border with Pakistan, has fully sealed its borders, and Border Security Force (BSF) units have been given shoot-on-sight orders for any suspicious activity.
Airports Shut, Air Force on High Vigil
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is on maximum alert. Flight operations from Jodhpur, Kishangarh, and Bikaner airports have been suspended until May 9, with fighter jets patrolling the western skies. Reports indicate that missile defense systems have been activated, and Sukhoi-30 MKI jets are conducting aerial patrols from Ganganagar down to the Rann of Kutch. Meanwhile, schools in Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Jaisalmer, and Barmer districts have been closed, ongoing exams postponed, and all police and railway staff leaves canceled.
