Ukraine war: Has the new world order begun? Know what happened in the UN

#News Bureau February 26,2025

The new world order has been dismissed as a fantasy so far. It has been called just a theory. But now it seems to be turning into reality. America and Russia came together against the resolution brought in the United Nations (UN) on the Ukraine war on Monday. This resolution was brought in the UN to condemn Russia. Till now America has been helping Ukraine in this war. But after Trump came, the situation changed suddenly. India stayed away from voting on this resolution. That is, it was absent. The US supported Russia and opposed it along with 16 other countries to vote against a resolution supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The member countries of the United Nations supported the resolution, but America strongly opposed it. America presented an alternative resolution, which refused to blame Russia for the war or mention Ukraine’s borders.

The resolution, drafted by Ukraine and European countries, received 93 votes, while 18 countries opposed and 65 countries abstained from voting. This resolution of the UN General Assembly reiterated its commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine. According to AFP report, the number of votes in support of Ukraine decreased compared to earlier.

This move by the US reflects a significant change in its policies. During the tenure of former President Joe Biden, Washington fully supported Ukraine in all the resolutions passed in the United Nations. Biden also helped Kiev on the battlefield by ensuring the supply of weapons and ammunition.
The counter-resolution presented by the US appealed for an “early end” to the Ukraine conflict. But there was no mention of Ukraine’s territorial integrity in it. It did not receive the support of the members of the United Nations General Assembly. So many changes were made in this resolution that when the revised resolution was voted on, the US itself distanced itself from it. The revised US resolution received 93 votes, while 73 countries abstained from voting and eight opposed.

Nebenzya praised Trump, saying he felt Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky “has absolutely no interest in making peace in his country because he wants to cling on to power.”

The diplomatic equation has changed rapidly since Trump returned to the White House last month. He has pursued an apparent rapprochement with Russia, while describing Ukrainian President Zelensky as a “dictator.”

Putin’s statement

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Russia is not opposed to Europe’s participation in Russia-US peace talks aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. But he said that Brussels has long rejected any kind of dialogue with Moscow. In an interview on Russian TV, Putin also said that US President Donald Trump is looking at the Russia-Ukraine conflict rationally and not emotionally. Russia and the US started talks on Ukraine in Saudi Arabia last week. Ukraine and its European allies were not invited to it. Ukraine and the European Union had raised objections to this.
