CBI arrests alleged mastermind of NEET-UG paper leak

The CBI on Thursday arrested Rakesh Ranjan alias Rocky, one of the alleged masterminds in the NEET-UG paper leak case. The accused was absconding since the action on the irregularities began. He was produced in a special court, from where he was sent to 10 days of CBI custody. Meanwhile, searches were conducted at four locations in Patna and Kolkata and two other places in Bihar linked to Rakesh.

This NEET case came to light when for the first time a large number of students topped. After this it was revealed that this time grace marks were given for giving the paper late at some centers. Meanwhile, Bihar Police took major action in the paper leak case and arrested some accused. The Economic Offenses Unit of the Bihar government has said in its report that its investigation clearly shows that the paper has been leaked in the NEET-UG exam. After Bihar, the investigation of the NEET paper leak case reached Delhi via Maharashtra, Gujarat. Many arrests have been made in these states.

The CBI has so far arrested nine people in the Bihar NEET-UG paper leak case. One person each has been arrested in connection with the alleged manipulation in Latur and Godhra in Gujarat, while one person has been arrested from Dehradun in connection with the common conspiracy.

Rocky is the ninth person arrested by the CBI in the NEET-UG paper leak case in Bihar. According to a PTI report, Rakesh is said to be a relative of mastermind Sanjeev Mukhiya. The CBI had been pursuing him ever since it got the case.

According to reports, Rakesh Ranjan alias Rocky used to run a hotel in Ranchi, Jharkhand. India Today has reported quoting sources that Rocky got the NEET-UG question paper leaked and then sent it to a person named Chintu. He further distributed the question papers with answers to students and printed copies. Rocky is the nephew of Sanjeev Mukhiya, another accused in the NEET paper leak case.
