Controversy increases over Covishield: Questions raised over removal of Modi’s photo

Hashtag Bureau 2 May,2024

Make sure you’ve observed both photos in this narrative attentively; if not, take another look. One depicts a certificate featuring PM Modi’s photo and message, emphasizing “Medicine and also strictness.” Interestingly, PM Modi’s photo is absent in the second photo. This narrative revolves around the widely discussed Covishield vaccine, developed by the British company AstraZeneca and produced under license by the Serum Institute in India. While the government was endorsing this vaccine as India’s own discovery and its production was underway, PM Modi visited the Serum Institute Company’s office to oversee the vaccine manufacturing process. However, PM Modi’s photo has been omitted from the vaccine certificates issued by all companies.

Later, when the electrical bond scam came to light, the same company was found to be donating Rs 52 crore. Congress alleges that this donation went to BJP. Now when the British company AstraZeneca accepted the serious side effects of its vaccine in the court, the controversy increased in India. The public and the opposition surrounded the Modi government on this issue.

AstraZeneca admitted in the UK High Court that its vaccine can cause thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), which causes blood clots and platelets to become severely low. It can even lead to death. . People have started linking the recent deaths in India with this.

What is the concern surrounding Covishield?

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, AstraZeneca and Oxford University collaborated to create a vaccine. The Serum Institute of India signed a deal to produce this vaccine, which was subsequently manufactured in India as Covishield. Since its inception, there have been reports of severe instances of blood clotting associated with this vaccine. AstraZeneca, the manufacturer of the Covishield vaccine, acknowledged these concerns.

When it is facing lawsuits related to allegations of serious harm to human health and many deaths in some cases due to this vaccine. It has acknowledged for the first time in court documents that its COVID-19 vaccine may cause rare side effects.

What was the government’s statement ?

Regarding reports on serious side effects of the vaccine, the then Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had said in March 2021 that both Covaxin and Covishield are completely safe and immunogenic and till now there is no concern about the safety of these vaccines being used in the country. Not there. He had said that ‘the percentage of people reporting serious side effects among the total number of beneficiaries vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country is 0.0002’. But something else was happening abroad.

Akhilesh Yadav initially declined vaccination but has now launched a fierce criticism against the BJP and the Modi government regarding this issue. In a recent tweet, he stated that approximately 80 crore Indians have received the Covishield vaccine, despite concerns expressed by the original formula’s manufacturer about its potential risk of causing heart attacks.

Those who endanger lives through the approval of dangerous medications will not be forgiven by the public. All individuals involved in such actions should face criminal charges for what could be considered as a conspiracy to commit murder. The ruling party’s acceptance of political donations from vaccine manufacturers has jeopardized public safety. Neither the law nor the public will overlook this. A thorough judicial inquiry at the highest level is imperative, as highlighted by Akhilesh’s statement, echoing the concerns circulating on social media.
