Vijender Singh suspects conspiracy after Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from Paris Olympics. 2008 Beijing Olympics medallist Vijender Singh has termed the situation as a big conspiracy against India. Speaking to India Today, Vijender criticised the decision that prevented Phogat from competing in the gold medal match against Sarah Hildebrandt of the United States.

Phogat was found to be about 100 grams over the acceptable weight limit. Due to this she was disqualified. The disqualification means that Vinesh will return empty-handed. She had earlier secured India’s fourth medal by defeating Cuba’s Yusnelis Guzman in the semi-finals in Paris. Phogat had secured a significant win on August 6 by ending Japan’s Yui Susaki’s 82-match undefeated streak, but her Olympic campaign came to an abrupt end.

Vijender expressed his disappointment and said the disqualification was part of a larger plan to undermine Indian wrestlers. “The way they have performed is commendable. Some people may not be able to digest the happiness. We can lose five to six kilograms overnight, so what’s the problem with 100 grams? I think someone had some problem, and hence the disqualification was taken. They should have been given a chance to lose 100 grams,” he told India Today.

“We don’t need carbohydrates and proteins; recovery is the first priority. Knowing that we have to compete the next day, weight control becomes the top priority. We depend on our physio for recovery and can control hunger, but our focus is more on recovery than food intake,” he said.

With Vinesh’s disqualification, Sakshi Malik remains India’s only Olympic medallist in wrestling.

On Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat being disqualified from Paris Olympics, her uncle Mahavir Phogat told ANI, ‘I have nothing to say. The whole country was expecting gold. There are rules but if a wrestler is 50-100 grams overweight then he is allowed to play. I would tell the people of the country not to be disappointed, one day she will definitely bring a medal. I will prepare her for the next Olympics.’

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said, ‘This is a very sad news that no one could defeat the daughter of the country in the arena but she has been defeated in the arena of conspiracy. A medal of the country has become a victim of politics today, this country can never forget this day.’
