Electoral Bond: Kharge asked- What is Modi government hiding under the guise of SBI?

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has attacked State Bank of India’s demand for more time to disclose all information about electoral bonds. Kharge on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of taking cover from the bank to hide its alleged “suspicious transactions”.

The Supreme Court had on February 15 ordered SBI to disclose details of electoral bonds encashed by political parties. Two weeks later, SBI approached the Supreme Court and demanded extension of the deadline for providing information till June 30. The court had ordered the bank to provide details by March 6.

Mallikarjun Kharge described the electoral bond scheme as opaque and undemocratic. He said that the BJP government is using the bank as a shield.

Kharge said the BJP wants SBI to share details after June 30, by which time the Lok Sabha elections will be over. Kharge said, “But BJP wants this to be done after the Lok Sabha elections. The term of this Lok Sabha will end on June 16 and SBI wants to share the data by June 30.” Kharge said-

Kharge said- “Experts say that 44,434 automatic data entries of donors can be updated and matched in just 24 hours. Then why does SBI need 4 more months to collect this information?”
