Iran has issued a statement after the US attack. It has confirmed the attack and said that there has been no damage. Al Jazeera also gave the same information quoting Iranian sources.
According to Al Jazeera, Manan Raisi, who represents the Qom parliamentary constituency where Fordo is located, says the attack on the underground nuclear site was “superficial”. According to Tasnim news agency, Raisi said, “Based on accurate information, I say that contrary to the claims of the lying US president, the Fordo nuclear facility has not suffered serious damage and the damage that has occurred is only on the ground, which can be repaired.” He also reiterated the earlier assessment that no leakage of radioactive substances has been found after the US attacks.
No threat in Qum
The crisis management headquarters in Qum province, where Fordo is located, issued a statement saying that “there is no threat to the people of Qum and the surrounding area”, according to Al Jazeera. The statement, carried by the IRNA news agency, came after Trump said Iran’s nuclear sites had been “destroyed”. Earlier, another official said Fordo had been “evacuated long ago and has not suffered any irreversible damage”.
US-Israel-Iran war: Time to question sovereignty of nations
Iran’s Press TV, citing sources, said Iran had already activated air defences around the three underground nuclear sites and the attack was successfully thwarted except for minor external damage at the entry and exit points.
The source said all three sites had already been evacuated and the enriched uranium had also been moved to a safe place. Although Trump had said he would make a final decision on the attack on Iran “within two weeks”, the source said Iran was also cautious as Israel was continuously exerting pressure.
Statement by Iran’s Foreign Ministry
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the US had launched a “dangerous war against Iran” by attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities on Sunday. “The world should not forget that it was the United States that betrayed diplomacy in the middle of the diplomatic process,” the ministry statement said. Describing Israel as “genocidal and lawless”, the statement accused the US of launching a “dangerous war against Iran”. It said the attacks were a violation of the UN Charter and international law, and the US government is “fully responsible for the grave consequences and horrific repercussions of this heinous crime.”
The ministry warned that it is Iran’s “legitimate right to resolutely and firmly oppose the US military aggression and the crimes committed by this evil regime and to defend Iran’s national security and interests by all necessary means.” It urged the United Nations and its various bodies, including nuclear watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency, to “pay immediate attention to this gross and criminal illegal act.” It called on the UN Security Council to hold an emergency session to condemn the attacks.
Speaking to Press TV, an official said Iran is currently defending itself against Israeli regime and US aggression, while Trump wants to create the illusion of victory. The official said that by joining the Israeli regime’s war against Iran, the US has effectively made itself a partner in crime and exposed its interests in the region to Iranian retaliation.
Statement by Atomic Energy Organization of Iran
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has condemned the US attack on the country’s nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz. The agency said the three nuclear sites operate under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the “brutal attack” on them is a violation of international law.
The AEOI said the attack was carried out “under the indifference – or rather complicity – of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)”. “The international community is expected to condemn this lawlessness based on the rules of the jungle and stand with Iran for its legitimate rights,” the statement said. The organisation further said that the organisation assures the great Iranian nation that despite the enemy’s sinister plots, it will not allow the progress of this national industry to stop.
It said, “The organisation has put on its agenda all necessary actions to protect the rights of the great Iranian people, including legal follow-up measures.”
Earlier, in a social media post, Trump had taken responsibility for those attacks.
