Paris Olympics: Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal and gave the country its first medal

Shooter Manu Bhaker won the first medal for India at the Paris Olympics 2024 by winning bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol final. The 22-year-old shooter from Haryana finished third in the women’s 10m air pistol final in the French capital. With this, she became the first Indian woman shooter to win a medal at the Games.
With this, Manu Bhaker opened India’s account at the Paris Olympics and the country ended its 12-year wait for a medal in shooting. Manu became only the fifth shooter to win an Olympic medal in shooting after Abhinav Bindra, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Vijay Kumar and Gagan Narang.
Manu Bhaker has forgotten the horrific memories of the Tokyo Olympics, where the Indian shooter did not qualify for the finals of any of the three events she competed in. Manu had decided to quit shooting last year, but later she took interest in the sport again.
Manu Bhaker started the final on Sunday with a lot of confidence. Manu Bhaker’s consistency impressed everyone and she did not fall out of the top three in the eight-woman final. Korea’s Oh Ye Jin won the gold medal with a total score of 243.2, a new Olympic record. It was 1-2 for Korea as Kim Yeji won the silver medal with a total score of 241.3.
