#News Bureau October27,2024
Expressing his willingness to be part of a communication campaign to protect the interests of retail investors, Rahul Gandhi told Kheda, “If you want me to be involved, tell me how?”
Rahul Gandhi posted a video of his interaction with Khera on Instagram, X, and captioned it, “Who is in the syndicate that patronises the corrupt?” Investor wealth eroded by a massive Rs 6.80 lakh crore on Friday as stock markets plunged on the back of a massive drop in IndusInd Bank shares and continued outflows of foreign funds.
In that video, Pawan Khera also expressed disappointment in his conversation with Rahul Gandhi that we are raising such a big issue but the media is not raising it properly. They do not include this issue in their debates. Rahul Gandhi replied that we have to raise the issues with complete transparency. We will keep raising questions. The public will decide for itself. Pawan Khera says at the end of the video that this is just the beginning. We will make more revelations.

SEBI Chairman Madhabi Puri Buch
Why is Madhabi Puri Buch running away
SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch did not attend the meeting called by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday, October 24. She did not attend citing ‘necessary reasons’. The PAC had called the meeting to review the functioning of the regulatory body. This is the second time the PAC has summoned her. The BJP was upset with the panel’s chairman KC Venugopal, accusing him of taking unilateral decisions and raising non-existent issues to defame the government.
Public Accounts Committee chief and Congress general secretary KC Venugopal had told ANI that day, “In the very first meeting of the committee, we decided to take up a suo motu matter to review our regulatory bodies. That is why we called SEBI chairman on Thursday morning for review of SEBI. The committee sends notices to the concerned people. First, the SEBI chairman sought exemption from appearing before the committee, which we refused. After that he confirmed that he and his team will be present in this committee… On Thursday morning, he informed me that he is not in a position to travel to Delhi. Considering the request of a woman, we thought it is better to postpone today’s meeting to some other day.”
SEBI’s functioning is to be reviewed, but along with this it was believed that he would also have to answer questions related to allegations of financial irregularities and conflict of interest. Earlier, Buch had sought exemption from appearing before the PAC, but this could not happen. BJP is protesting in this matter and a media report has quoted sources as saying that he has been acquitted of the charges in the government’s investigation.
Madhabi Puri Buch came under controversy in August when a US-based short-seller firm claimed that whistleblower documents showed that SEBI chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch had stakes in suspicious offshore entities used in the Adani money siphoning scandal. It has alleged that this is why she did not take action on the earlier disclosures regarding Adani. Hindenburg Research has raised the question of conflict of interest involving market regulator SEBI.
Hindenburg Research’s fresh allegations have been rejected by SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch. Issuing a quick statement, Buch said that their investment in the fund, which Hindenburg claimed was linked to the alleged ‘Adani stock manipulation’, was made two years before Madhabi joined SEBI. Despite her clarification, she continued to be in controversies and the Congress has made several allegations one after the other.
According to a report by India Today, the government’s investigation into the allegations levelled against SEBI chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch has found nothing objectionable. The investigation exonerated Buch of the current charges and concluded that she will complete her term, which ends in February 2025.
