South Korea: 179 killed, 2 safe in plane crash

A major plane accident occurred in South Korea on Sunday morning. A plane carrying 181 people crashed. At least 179 people died in this. The remaining two are seriously injured. Both the survivors have been admitted to the hospital.
This incident happened on Sunday morning at Muan International Airport in South Korea. According to AP report, officials said that the plane coming from Bangkok, Thailand, while trying to land at the southwestern coastal airport at 9:07 am local time, slipped off the runway and hit the fence.
The plane was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members. The plane slid off the runway and hit a fence soon after landing. Officials said its landing gear appeared to have malfunctioned.
The Jeju Air plane was landing at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province, about 288 km from the capital Seoul. The Jeju Air plane was reportedly returning from Thailand and the accident occurred during landing. A Muan airport official said the airport was handling the emergency.
Aviation tracking site Flightradar24 said the plane appeared to be a Boeing 737-800. Emergency workers evacuated two people, while 32 fire engines and several helicopters were deployed to control the fire.
Photos shared by local media showed smoke billowing from the plane. According to Reuters, two people were found alive as rescue operations continued at Muan Airport.
South Korea’s acting President Choi Sang-mok said an all-out rescue effort had been ordered.
Of the 175 passengers on board the plane, 173 were South Koreans and two were Thai nationals, Yonhap news agency reported. Emergency service workers said three survivors had been recovered and the search for other victims was ongoing. Authorities were working to rescue people in the rear of the plane, Reuters news agency quoted an airport official as saying.
