US Presidential Election: Kamala Harris gets crucial support from Obama
#News Bureau July26,2024
Former President Barack Obama endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee. He and his wife and former first lady Michelle Obama said in a statement that they would “do everything possible to ensure that Kamala Harris is elected the next president of the United States.” Obama is the most prominent Democrat to support Harris’ candidacy.
Harris accepted Obama’s endorsement in a phone call, a video of which was released by her campaign Friday morning. The video is now viral.
According to the New York Times, Obama did not mention Kamala Harris when he remembered Biden’s services this week. Republicans interpreted Obama’s silence about Harris on Sunday as a snub. But people close to Obama downplayed it and said he (Obama) had no alternative candidate in mind. They said Obama’s immediate endorsement could lead to criticism that the party has not yet decided and Obama began making the announcement.
A person familiar with Obama’s thinking said this week that he sees his role as someone who helps unite the party. He is waiting for Harris’ nomination. However, the Democrats have still not announced Harris as their presidential candidate. But now that Harris’ support is constantly increasing in the election surveys, Obama could not stop himself and on Friday he announced his support.
