Hezbollah has suffered a major setback in Lebanon, which is fighting with Israel. Nearly 3000 people, including Hezbollah fighters and doctors, have been injured in pager explosions in Lebanon on Tuesday. Initial reports put the number at one thousand, but this number kept increasing. They use pagers as a means of communication. These pagers exploded across the country.

According to a Reuters report, a Hezbollah official said that the pager explosion is its biggest security lapse in the nearly one-year war with Israel. In an initial statement, Hezbollah had said that two of its fighters and a girl were killed due to the simultaneous explosions of the pagers used by it. However, later this number increased to at least eight. According to reports, Hezbollah said in a statement that it is investigating to find out the cause of the explosions.

However, Israel was not directly accused of being behind this operation. But a Hezbollah member told AFP that the pager explosion was the result of an ‘Israeli break-in’ into its communications channels. According to other media reports, a Hezbollah official has described the incident as the ‘biggest security lapse’ in the nearly one-year conflict with Israel, causing widespread panic and confusion.

These explosions have taken place amid ongoing violence between Hezbollah and Israel. The conflict between the two has intensified since the start of the Gaza War in October last year. Hezbollah’s missile attacks on Israel began soon after Hamas attacks on October 7. After this both sides opened fire. The ongoing conflict has displaced thousands of people from towns and villages on both sides of the border. The situation still remains volatile with reports of more explosions in southern Lebanon and the capital Beirut. Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was injured in an explosion, according to Iran’s Mehr news agency.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on the blasts. A Reuters journalist reported that ambulances were rushing to Beirut’s southern suburbs, which caused widespread panic in the area. Residents said explosions continued 30 minutes after the initial blasts. CCTV footage of the blasts was shared on social media.

Iranian media has shown CCTV footage of a grocery store in which a small handheld device placed next to the cashier is seen suddenly exploding. Other footage shows a man standing at a fruit shop in the market area being knocked unconscious by an explosion.

Let us tell you that Hezbollah, banned from the United States and the European Union, is the political and military establishment in Lebanon and is supported by Iran. Hezbollah supports Hamas, which has been at war with Israel in Gaza since October 2023.
