Who will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi? Even though the name of someone is already decided in the Aam Aadmi Party, its official announcement can be made on Tuesday. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to resign on Tuesday itself and a meeting of the Aam Aadmi Party’s legislative party is said to be held on the same day in the morning.
A day after Arvind Kejriwal created a stir by announcing his resignation from the post of Chief Minister of Delhi, the AAP chief has decided to meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4.30 pm on Tuesday. Before this, a meeting of AAP MLAs will be held at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence at 11.30 am
In this case, a meeting of Aam Aadmi Party was held at Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Monday. Senior leaders Manish Sisodia, Kailash Gehlot, Atishi and others attended it. It is said that many decisions were taken in it.
Arvind Kejriwal had announced his resignation from the CM post in a shocking manner a day earlier i.e. on Sunday. He had said that he would resign from the post of Chief Minister in two days. Kejriwal said, ‘The case will continue despite the court granting us bail. I have spoken to my lawyers. I will not sit on the CM’s chair until the case is over. After two days, I am going to resign from the CM’s post. I will not sit on the CM’s chair until the public elects me and sends me to the seat again. ‘
Why did Kejriwal not resign before going to jail or while staying in jail? He also answered this question. He said, ‘I did not resign when I went to jail because I wanted to save democracy. If I had resigned from jail, they would have put all the Chief Ministers of the opposition in jail and brought down the government. Kejriwal said,
“I request all the Chief Ministers of the opposition that if they put you in jail, do not resign because we have shown that a government can be run from jail.
In media reports, the names of ministers Atishi, Gopal Rai and Kailash Gehlot are doing the rounds for the post of Chief Minister. Ruling out the possibility of former Deputy Chief Minister and AAP’s second-in-command Manish Sisodia taking over, Kejriwal said that someone from AAP will replace him till the elections are held.
Atishi holds the maximum number of departments including education, finance, revenue, law. Recently, the CM had nominated her to hoist the tricolour on Independence Day in his place. However, it was rejected and the LG nominated Gehlot to do so. According to media reports, Gopal Rai, who holds the environment portfolio, could also be a potential choice as he is a senior member of the party. AAP sources say that ‘Atishi has good relations with officials and knows how to get work done. Similarly, Gehlot, who holds transport, home and WCD portfolios, is active in party work and meetings. Despite quarrels with bureaucrats, he gets work done in his departments
After spending nearly six months in jail for his alleged involvement in the Delhi Excise Policy case, Kejriwal has tried to show morality by resigning and calling for early elections after coming out on bail.
Reacting to Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation offer, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said, “Courts have repeatedly found that CM Arvind Kejriwal took bribes of Rs 90-100 crore in the liquor scam, which he used for the Aam Aadmi Party in the Goa elections. She said that “Given his involvement in the scam, the Supreme Court did not find him fit to sign any file or visit the CM office. It seems that he has put up a political show by putting a veil of morality on the necessity of the bail condition.”
