After India’s allegations of ceasefire violation, Pakistan has responded regarding the agreement. Know what is its response and will the tension between the two countries be reduced?
After India accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC), Pakistan has said that it is committed to peace and reconciliation. This statement came after New Delhi alleged that Pakistan violated the agreement just hours after it was signed.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said in a statement on Saturday night, “There have been several incidents of ceasefire violations from Pakistan. We are responding to these provocative actions and monitoring the situation.” India says that in the last few weeks, the Pakistani army has continuously fired on the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, to which the Indian Army gave a befitting reply.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying, “Pakistan is committed to peace and stability. We want to avoid any kind of tense situation and are in favor of resolving issues with India through dialogue.” Pakistan also claimed that the Indian Army took provocative action several times, in response to which their army had to open fire. Tension has increased on the LoC in the last few weeks.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement, ‘We believe that any problem in the proper implementation of the ceasefire should be resolved through dialogue at the appropriate level. The troops deployed on the ground should also exercise restraint.’
This statement of Pakistan came after its army violated the ceasefire with firing and drone attacks in several border districts of India like Barmer in Rajasthan and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.
The two nuclear-armed neighboring countries got embroiled in a military confrontation when India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif praised the ceasefire agreement with India and thanked US President Donald Trump. He wrote on X, ‘We thank President Trump for his leadership and his active role for peace in the region. Pakistan appreciates the role of the United States in facilitating the outcome, which we have accepted in the interest of regional peace and stability.’
Later, while addressing the Pakistani public, Sharif expressed gratitude to world leaders and countries for their support during the heightened tensions with India. Expressing hope for the future, Sharif expressed confidence that water sharing, Kashmir and other contentious issues will be resolved.
Earlier on Saturday, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the Indian armed forces are actively responding to ceasefire violations by Pakistan. He urged Pakistan to take appropriate measures to halt these breaches and to approach the situation with seriousness and responsibility. Misri added that the armed forces are maintaining strict vigilance along the international border and the Line of Control (LoC), with clear directives to respond firmly to any further violations.
Would you like it in a more formal tone or simplified further for a general audience?
Pakistan violated the ceasefire repeatedly across several days in April and May 2025, heightening tensions with India. The hostilities began on April 27, when cross-border firing incidents were reported, and have continued to strain relations between the two nations. Despite the announcement of a temporary ceasefire on May 10, reports of violations have persisted.
The ceasefire agreement signed in 2003 between India and Pakistan has been breached on numerous occasions over the years, with both sides accusing each other of provocation. The international community has urged both countries to show restraint and resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue.
