After the India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement, army officials have given a statement. Know the full story:

India and Pakistan agreed on a complete and immediate ceasefire on Saturday, after which both countries decided to stop ground, air and sea military actions. This ceasefire has come into effect from 5 pm. However, the Indian Army has made it clear that it is fully prepared and alert, and is committed to protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the country.

Indian Navy Commodore Raghu Nair said, “We are fully prepared and never careless. We are fully committed to protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the motherland.” He also warned that any provocation in the future would be responded to decisively.

This ceasefire has come at a time when tensions between the two countries were at their peak in recent times. Military tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir last month. After this, both the countries attacked each other’s military posts, which made the situation more serious. On Saturday itself, the Indian Air Force carried out precision strikes on eight military installations in Pakistan, including radar units and ammunition depots.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told in a press briefing that the ceasefire decision was taken after direct communication between the military officials of the two countries. Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) spoke to his Indian counterpart on the phone at 3:35 pm on Saturday.

Both sides agreed that all firing and military actions would be stopped from 5 pm. Misri also informed that the DGMOs of both countries would talk again on May 12 at 12 noon. However, the first announcement of the ceasefire was made by US President Donald Trump.

US President Donald Trump announced this ceasefire and called it a historic step. He wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, “After a long night of talks, I am happy to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed on a complete and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries for using wisdom and intelligence.” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also revealed that he and Vice President JD Vance had held talks with senior officials from India and Pakistan, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, over the past 48 hours.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the ceasefire, saying, “Pakistan and India have agreed on a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made it clear that India’s counter-terrorism policy will remain unchanged despite the ceasefire. “India will continue its firm and uncompromising policy against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” he said.

The ceasefire comes after one of the most severe military tensions in decades between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. The G7 countries had also expressed concern over the tension and appealed to both the countries for immediate de-escalation and direct dialogue for a peaceful solution.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has now been entrusted with the responsibility of assessing the damage in the affected areas and providing relief to the people. Meanwhile, the Indian Army has made it clear that it is ready to deal with any situation and is maintaining vigilance to maintain peace on the border.
