Iranian media reports that air defense systems have been activated in Tehran, with no military sites belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) yet to be hit. Two Israeli officials told the New York Times that the attacks on military sites in Iran ended around 5 a.m. Saturday. According to the report, the IDF “attacked about 20 sites during the night.”
Reuters and CNN, citing Iran’s news agency IRNA, reported that Iranian officials said explosions were heard in several areas in and around Tehran early Saturday. These are related to air security. Iran’s Tasnim news agency had earlier reported that several explosions were heard west of the Iranian capital. According to Fars news agency, several explosions were also heard in Tehran on Saturday morning local time.
The Israeli military says it is striking “precisely” military targets in Iran. An Israeli military source told CNN that Israel’s retaliatory targets in Iran do not include nuclear infrastructure.
Photos released by the Israeli military showed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant managing the operation against Iran from Kirya, the Israel Defense Forces’ military headquarters in Tel Aviv.

A Defense Ministry spokesman said in a statement that Netanyahu and Galant were “closely monitoring” the attacks in Iran from the IDF’s command and control center. They were accompanied by Israel’s deputy chief of the general staff, the Defense Ministry’s director general and additional senior officials, the statement said. Israel Air Force commander Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar was also present, the Israeli military said.
Israel’s attack on Iran is ongoing and is expected to be an overnight affair, US-based ABC News reported. ABC cited a source who also said there have been no reports of Iranian casualties or damage to its warplanes so far.
According to Iranian media, loud noises heard by some people around Tehran were caused by the activation of an air defense system.
