Kejriwal did not get any relief from the Supreme Court on Monday. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will now remain in jail till at least April 29. The Supreme Court on Monday refused to give urgent hearing to the petition against his arrest on corruption charges related to the alleged liquor policy. The court gave time till April 27 to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file its reply.
Delhi High Court has also rejected Kejriwal’s petition for early hearing last week. The High Court had said that the ED has presented sufficient evidence to prove its claim. ED has also detected a money trail of Rs 100 crore. Kejriwal then challenged in the Supreme Court. But due to holiday in between, the case was listed on Monday.
In the High Court, Kejriwal had strongly argued against his arrest, pointing to the timing of the central agency’s action. However, Kejriwal refused to appear on several summons of ED. He was demanding from the court to stay the arrest. But he did not get any relief from anywhere.
Last week, Kejriwal had said his arrest was an “unprecedented attack on free and fair elections” and “the principles of democracy”. AAP has denied all allegations of corruption and described the case against Kejriwal as “political vendetta” for destroying the party before the elections.
The court rejected all the arguments of Kejriwal. The court said- “Political views cannot be brought before the court… The matter before this court is not a matter of conflict between the Central Government and Arvind Kejriwal. It is a matter between Arvind Kejriwal and the ED.”
