On China’s action, India said- Arunachal is ours, it will always be an inseparable part

India has firmly dismissed China’s attempt to rename locations in Arunachal Pradesh, labeling it a baseless and meaningless exercise. The Ministry of External Affairs reaffirmed that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and categorically rejected China’s claim over the region, referred to by Beijing as “South Tibet.”

India has strongly rejected China’s latest attempt to rename locations in Arunachal Pradesh, calling it a “futile and ridiculous” move. The Ministry of External Affairs reaffirmed that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India, and stated that no effort by China can alter this fact.

This marks the first such renaming attempt by China since the October 2024 disengagement between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh. That disengagement was followed by a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which both leaders tasked National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi with resolving the broader border dispute.

On Wednesday, India reiterated its rejection of China’s latest list of renamed places in Arunachal Pradesh, describing it as a so-called “creative renaming” exercise. The Ministry of External Affairs once again emphasized that Arunachal Pradesh is an inseparable part of India and that Beijing’s repeated claims to the region—referred to by China as “South Tibet”—have no basis in fact.

India has consistently maintained that such actions are politically motivated, lack any legitimacy under international law or bilateral agreements, and are entirely unacceptable. The Government of India remains committed to defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and firmly opposes any attempts to alter the ground reality through symbolic gestures such as renaming.

This is not the first time the two sides have engaged in naming disputes. In April last year, after China released Chinese names for several locations in Arunachal Pradesh, India responded by renaming 30 places in Tibet.
