It was said about Ratan Tata that he would like to be remembered not as a successful man but as a good human being. And today, when he has passed away, his words are proving to be absolutely true. Ratan Tata’s life will always be remembered not only as an industrialist but also as a humane and compassionate person. He kept integrity, principles and the spirit of nationalism paramount in the Indian industry and discharged the service of the country and social obligations.
Ratan Tata: Symbol of Successful Leadership
Ratan Tata was born on 28 December 1937 in an illustrious Tata family in Mumbai. He was a leader who changed the direction of the Indian industry. Under his leadership, the Tata Group spread its wings not only in India but all over the world. Ratan Tata always said, “I do not believe in taking the right decisions, I take decisions and then make them right.” This ideology was reflected in his every step, where he focused not only on business profits but also on the upliftment and progress of the society. He developed his company not just as a business empire but also as an instrument of social upliftment.
Ratan Tata faced many challenges in his life but never compromised on his principles and values. When he took over the reins of the Tata Group in 1991, the Indian economy was going through a difficult phase. He took the company to new heights even in difficult circumstances and earned it global prestige.

Tata Nano was the brain child of Ratan Tata
Ratan Tata’s greatest contribution was the creation of the Tata Nano car, which was a symbol of his dream of “every Indian should have their own car”. Tata Nano became known as the world’s cheapest car, and became a living proof of his thinking of innovation and doing something for the people of the country. For him, business success did not mean only making profits, but also serving the society and improving the lifestyle of the people. He launched many schemes for education, health and rural development through Tata Trust and pledged to improve the lives of the people of the lower strata of the society.
Ability to adapt with changing times: Under Ratan Tata’s leadership, the Tata Group made several significant acquisitions, such as Jaguar Land Rover and Corus Steel, which proved to be milestones for Indian industry. These acquisitions proved that Indian companies can also compete globally and make a mark at the global level.
Apart from Mukesh Ambani, fellow business tycoons including Adani Group’s Gautam Adani, Google’s Sundar Pichai, Kotak Mahindra Bank founder and director Uday Kotak also took to X to offer their condolences. “India has lost a giant, a visionary who redefined the trajectory of modern India,” Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani wrote on X.
Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla also paid tribute to him. The Birla and Tata families are said to be close. Kumar Mangalam Birla wrote- “Ratan Tata embodies the best ideals of the iconic Tata Group. Through his career and work, he has undeniably demonstrated that business, at its best, is both a vehicle for economic strength and a catalyst for social progress. His decisions have impacted lives and industries beyond financial metrics.”
Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra also wrote on X to express his grief after the news- “I am unable to accept the absence of Ratan Tata. India’s economy stands at the cusp of a historic leap. Ratan’s life and work have contributed greatly to our being at this peak.”
