In Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Tushar Gandhi was heckled by RSS workers. Tushar Gandhi had just said that RSS is like cancer which is spreading in the soul of the country. On this, RSS and BJP workers created a lot of noise and misbehaved with him. This incident happened in Neyyattinkara of Thiruvananthapuram district on Wednesday evening. This also created tension there for some time.

The incident took place during the unveiling of the statue of Gandhian leader Gopinathan Nair near TB junction in Neyyattinkara. In his speech, Tushar Gandhi said, “The soul of the nation is suffering from cancer and the Sangh Parivar is spreading it.” The statement immediately sparked outrage among BJP and RSS workers present at the event, who demanded that he take back his words and apologise. Refusing to back down, Tushar Gandhi stuck to his stand.
The protesters then surrounded him, shouted slogans and jostled him. As Tushar Gandhi started walking towards his car to leave, RSS workers tried to block his way. Undeterred, Tushar Gandhi shouted “Gandhi ki jai” while leaving the venue. He then made his sloganeering louder. Slogans like “RSS murdabad” and “Gandhiji zindabad” however drowned out the noise of the Sanghis. Local authorities intervened to handle the situation to ensure that no tension escalated.
The clash disrupted the event for some time, but Tushar Gandhi managed to get out of the venue amid the chaos. The protest kicked up a political storm. The Congress party was quick to condemn the actions of the RSS and BJP workers.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K. Sudhakaran issued a scathing statement, accusing the Sangh Parivar of being haunted by the “ghost of Nathuram Godse”, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in 1948. Sudhakaran also criticised the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) for its silence over the incident, questioning its stand on the escalating tensions.
The episode has reignited debates in India over freedom of expression, ideological differences and the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. So far, neither the RSS nor the BJP have issued any official response to Tushar Gandhi’s allegations, but the incident highlights the deepening political divide in India. RSS affiliates are openly glorifying Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse.
