Hash#ag News Bureau May 30,2024
The southwest monsoon hit the Kerala coast today i.e. Thursday, a day before the forecast. Now it is moving towards some parts of the Northeast. The India Meteorological Department had said on Wednesday that conditions will remain favorable for the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Kerala during the next 24 hours. On May 15, the weather office had predicted the onset of monsoon in Kerala by May 31.
Meteorologists said that Cyclone Remal, which passed through West Bengal and Bangladesh on Sunday, has pulled the monsoon flow towards the Bay of Bengal, which may be a reason for the early arrival of monsoon in the Northeast. According to the data of the Meteorological Department, Kerala has been receiving heavy rains for the last few days, resulting in above normal rainfall in May.
The normal date of arrival of monsoon in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Assam is June 5. The IMD said that during this period, conditions are becoming favorable for the advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of South Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin, remaining parts of Lakshadweep, southwest and central Bay of Bengal, northeastern Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeastern states.
Where and when does the monsoon arrive?
Usually the southwest monsoon enters Kerala around June 1. Generally it moves northwards with a surge and covers the entire country around July 15. Before this, the monsoon arrives in Andaman and Nicobar on May 22. This time the monsoon has arrived in Andaman on May 19, 3 days before the usual. However, the people of North India waiting for the monsoon will have to wait longer. Monsoon showers between June 30 and July 2 in Delhi-NCR can provide relief from the heat of summer. On the other hand, the monsoon is likely to arrive in UP between June 18 and 20.
When will there be relief in North West India?
Meanwhile, the areas of North West India including Delhi, which are battling severe heat and heat wave, may get relief after May 30. Severe heat wave conditions are prevailing in parts of Northwest India and may continue for the next three days, but thunderstorms are expected on May 30, however, this relief will be temporary and temperatures are likely to remain above normal in most parts of the country including Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan in June. Intense heat wave conditions may prevail for more days than normal in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, UP, parts of Gujarat and Northwest India in June.
El Nino system is weakening
According to the Meteorological Department, the El Nino system is weakening in the country and La Nina conditions are becoming active, which is favorable for a good monsoon this year. Due to this, the monsoon has knocked in India before time. At the same time, along with La Nina, Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions are also becoming favorable for a good monsoon this year, which is a positive sign for the monsoon.
