Sources said security forces recovered a United States-made M4 assault rifle and three blood-soaked bags containing equipment and logistics material from the encounter site.
The fresh terror attack in the Jammu region comes a day ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is chairing a meeting to review the security situation attended by senior officials, including Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Terrorist activities have increased in the Jammu region in recent months, particularly in the southern areas of the Pir Panjal range where there are dense forests and steep mountains that provide shelter to terrorists.
This has raised fears of a resurgence of terrorism in the region. The shadow of terrorism had been silent in this area for a long time.
Earlier this month, the government had said that it is preparing a new security framework for Jammu and Kashmir to deal with the increasing incidents of targeting of civilians and army personnel and camps by terrorists.
