BJP gets shock from Akalis in Punjab

Hash#ag Bureau May27,2024

The biggest news of the Lok Sabha elections is that the electoral alliance between Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP could not be formed in Punjab. In a way, this is a blow to BJP. Because she was holding meetings with the Akalis for the last two months but was not able to reach an agreement. There are 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. The direct impact of the Akali-BJP agreement is going to be that the contest in Punjab will be triangular. BJP will definitely influence one or two seats but it is nowhere in the fight. But first know why things did not work out between BJP and Akalis.
After quitting the BJP-led NDA and Modi government over the farmers’ issue, a senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader on Tuesday, March 26, told sources that he cannot say yes to the BJP proposal of alliance due to several reasons, Because BJP did not pay attention to our issues. Akali Dal said- no commitment was offered on the pending issues of Sikhs. Which also includes the release of Sikh political prisoners, transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab and farmers’ issues.

This will be the first Lok Sabha election since 1998 in which BJP and Akali Dal will contest alone. In the first assembly election they fought separately, both suffered a setback, with the BJP winning two seats and the Akalis winning three out of 117 seats. AAP had won 92 seats.

Senior Akali leadership said that the last conversation between BJP president JP Nadda and Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal took place over phone on Monday evening. The leader said, “No meeting has been held since the talks failed in early March. Nadda called Sukhbir ji on Monday evening for an alliance. He was clearly told that Shiromani Akali Dal would be formed without commitment on Sikh issues. Cannot form alliance.”

What did Punjab BJP say?
The BJP on Tuesday announced its decision to contest the Punjab Lok Sabha elections alone. BJP Punjab President Sunil Jakhar said that BJP has decided to contest Punjab elections alone. Jakhar said- “We took this decision after extensive discussions with the people, party leaders and workers. The objective of this decision is to keep in mind the bright future of the youth, farmers, traders, backward classes of Punjab. Prime Minister Narendra Modi The work done for Punjab in the last ten years is evident, every grain of the produce of the farmers of Punjab has been purchased and the proper MSP has been sent to the bank accounts of the farmers within a week.”

He said that the centuries-old unfulfilled dream of the Sikhs to visit the Kartarpur Gurdwara across the border became possible with the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor under the leadership of PM Modi. “This decision has been taken in the interest of the safe border state of Punjab and I am sure that people will support the BJP in the June 1 elections,” Jakhar said. It is a different matter that here Sunil Jakhar did not tell the truth that the Kartarpur project was started during the time of the previous Congress government. Whose script was written because of the friendship between Navjot Singh Sidhu and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. The credit goes to America’s Sikh lobby for bringing this project to completion.
