FIR against Allahabadia, Samay Raina and others for ‘obscene discussion’

The Assam police have filed an FIR against YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia and comedian Samay Raina, among other influencers, for allegedly “promoting obscenity and indulging in vulgar discussions” in a recent episode of the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on Instagram that YouTubers and influencers Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apurva Makhija and others have also been named in the FIR for promoting obscenity.
There has been a ruckus on stand-up comedian Samay Raina’s show. Social media users lashed out at YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia for his lewd comments on his roast show. He said something during the show that people asked him to take back his words and apologize. A complaint has also been filed against him.
After the ruckus, Allahabadia has apologized for his comments. He has admitted that it was really not good. He has said that ‘comedy is not my expertise’. Ranveer has posted an apology message on X, in which he wrote, ‘I should not have said what I said on India’s Got Talent. I am sorry.’
Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Mukhija were also present in the program. After Ranveer’s objectionable comment, according to news agency ANI, ‘A complaint has been filed against YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina and the organizers of the show ‘India’s Got Latent’. A complaint has been lodged with the Mumbai Commissioner and Maharashtra Women’s Commission for allegedly using indecent language in the show and strict action has been demanded against the accused in the letter’. After the ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy surfaced, a team of Mumbai Police has reached Khar Studio, where the show was shot. Mumbai Police has given this information. Politicians across party lines criticized the podcaster. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also among those who criticized him. The Chief Minister said, ‘I have been informed about this, although I have not seen it yet. I came to know that it was very obscene and it was wrong. Everyone has freedom of speech, but this freedom ends when we start interfering with the freedom of others. Everyone has their limits, if someone crosses them, action will be taken.
Demand for regulation on OTT
People are demanding boycott of Ranveer Allahabadia due to his comments. Social media users have demanded a ban on such insulting jokes.
