How many lies did Trump tell in the last one month after becoming President?
#News Bureau February 22,2024
Trump lies and he does so a lot! He made an average of 21 lies or misleading claims every day during his last 4 years of tenure. But do you know how many cases he has done so since becoming the President for the second time?
After becoming the President last month, he has told at least 13 big lies or misleading claims in one month. The number of small lies and misleading claims is much more. These claims of Trump came in speeches, interviews, conversations with journalists and posts on social media. The President not only made exaggerated claims in his statements, but also made completely fabricated statements. He did the same during his first presidential term. Before knowing how Trump lied and made false claims during his last 4 years of tenure, let us know what kind of a person he is and what kind of news has come about his latest tenure.
Trump’s image is that of a leader who is known for his foul language. He is said to be arrogant and boastful. In his last term, he set a record for lying. Now in this term, CNN has published a report on Trump’s 13 big lies.
‘Condom Fund in Gaza’
According to the report, Press Secretary Caroline Levitt announced in her first official White House briefing that Trump had scuttled a plan to spend $50 million ‘to fund condoms in Gaza’. The Trump administration had no evidence to prove this. But Trump not only repeated the figure of $50 million the next day, but he also added an inflammatory claim that the condoms were ‘for Hamas’. Then, a few days after it became clear that the figure of $50 million was pure fiction, Trump exaggerated it to ‘$100 million’.
Ukraine war
The Russia-Ukraine war began when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. That’s a fact. But on Tuesday, Trump dismissed Ukrainians’ complaints about being excluded from US-Russia talks about ending the war and falsely accused Ukraine of starting the war. “You should never have started it. You could have made a deal,” Trump said.
Birthright Citizenship
Trump offered a rationale for his effort to end birthright citizenship. He said the United States is the only country that grants birthright citizenship. But that’s not true, as CNN and other outlets have reported Trump made the same claim as president in 2018 and on numerous other occasions. In dozens of countries, including Canada and Mexico, people born on their soil automatically get citizenship.
Capitol Hill Violence
Trump fabricated his own narrative about the January 6, 2021 Capitol Hill building violence. When Trump was asked earlier this month why he pardoned the people who attacked, he said the people he pardoned were actually “attacked by our government” and “they (the pardoned people) did not attack.” Trump’s claim that “they did not attack” is a lie. That has been made clear in video after video and lawsuit after lawsuit.
In the Justice Department case, more than 140 officers were attacked on January 6 and more than 170 people have pleaded guilty to such attacks.
Similarly, Trump had made a statement regarding California water policy. Trump linked the Los Angeles forest fire to the decision to use part of its water to protect a fish species in the northern part of California. Whereas the two things have nothing to do with each other. Then, after suddenly ordering the release of billions of gallons of water from Central Valley reservoirs, Trump announced that some of this water was going to Los Angeles. Whereas the truth is that that water was not going to Los Angeles and that water cannot go to Los Angeles.
Along with this, Trump’s claims about the 2020 election results, transgenders in Olympic boxing, Canadians’ consent to make Canada an American state have also been proved false. Trump blamed Biden’s policies for the military helicopter crash, whereas it was the Trump administration’s policy that was responsible. His claims about statistics on autism and the youth vote received by Trump have also been proved wrong.
Know the record of lies of the previous term
Donald Trump had set a record of lying during his first term itself. Fact checkers had busted Trump’s claims and his statements. The Washington Post collected 30,573 false or misleading claims in four years. If this is divided into four years, then there are about 21 false or misleading claims on an average every day.
One special thing about the last term was that the number of false or misleading claims was low in the initial days of gaining power. This number increased over time.
In his first year, an average of 6 claims were false per day. In his last year, it increased to 39 per day. This increase happened especially around the 2020 election. The Toronto Star recorded 5,276 false claims from January 2017 to June 2019, an average of six per day during that period.
20 false claims on the day of becoming President
Media outlets like CNN have noted the continuation of this pattern since the beginning of his second term. Trump made 20 false claims on the first day of his presidency, i.e. January 20, 2025. This shows that he can maintain or even exceed his previous rate.
