#News Bureau February 6,2025
The issue of illegal Indian immigrants returning from America in a pitiable condition has become a big issue. The opposition made it an issue and protested inside and outside the Parliament. Some MPs even wore handcuffs in protest
There was uproar in both the houses of Parliamen on Thursday, 6 February, on the issue of deportation of illegal Indian immigrants from America. The proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till noon. As soon as the MPs reached both the houses, the opposition members, mostly Congress MPs, stood up from their seats and tried to raise the issue. But the Speaker did not allow it. After this, the opposition MPs united and protested outside the Parliament. The return of illegal immigrants in handcuffs has become a new problem for the Modi government. The opposition is angry that the Modi government did not talk to the Trump administration frankly on this issue, while small countries are opposing this policy of Trump. Deputy Chairman Harivansh was on his seat in the Rajya Sabha. He ordered that the statements of the opposition MPs will not go on record. That is, the opposition was not even allowed to ask questions to the government on the sufferings of the NRIs. After a lot of uproar, the proceedings of the House were adjourned till noon. Those who gave notices under Rule 267 included Santosh Kumar P of CPI, Sanket Gokhale of TMC, V Sivadasan of CPM and Congress leaders Anil Kumar Yadav, Shakti Singh Gohil, Pramod Tiwari, Renuka Chowdhary and Ashok Singh. In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla tried to pacify the agitating members by saying that the government has taken their concerns seriously. “This is a matter of foreign policy. Foreign countries also have their own rules and regulations. You can raise your issues in the afternoon and let the Question Hour run smoothly,” he said.Congress’ KC Venugopal moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha to discuss the issue. The motion urged the Centre to outline the diplomatic steps being taken to engage with the Donald Trump administration. But the Speaker did not allow discussion on it.
However, the protesting members ignored the Speaker’s pleas and continued with the protest following which Birla adjourned the House till noon.

Outside the Parliament, Congress MP from Wayanad Priyanka Gandhi said- A lot was said that Modi Ji and Trump Ji are very good friends, then why did Modi Ji allow this to happen? Are humans treated like this that they are sent wearing handcuffs and shackles? Is this the way… The Prime Minister should answer. Illegal migrants who returned to India are telling painful stories. There they were taken from one camp to another. There was no toilet facility. They were handcuffed during the entire journey and their legs were tied with chains. Talking to the media, some of them said that they were freed from handcuffs and shackles only after landing in Amritsar. This incident tells about the dangers of going illegally through America’s ‘Donkey Route’. PM Modi, who claims to be a friend of US President Trump, did not object to this issue even once.
