ISRO: Satellite launched to monitor environmental activities on every corner of the Earth
#News Bureau August 16,2024
ISRO successfully placed the earth observation and SR-O DemoSat satellites in their designated orbits on Friday, August 16. The space agency thus launched its third and final flight, Small Satellite Launch Vehicle-D3, carrying the earth observation satellite EOS-08. India has made remarkable progress in satellite manufacturing and launching. More than all its technical aspects, it is important to know what exactly this satellite will do.
The Earth Observation (EOS) satellite (EOS-08) will collect data about the Earth’s atmosphere, water, and surface using remote sensing platforms. The data will then be processed and analyzed to provide information that can be used for a variety of purposes.
This satellite will help us monitor and protect the environment and understand it better. For example, such satellites have shown that polar ice sheets are changing dramatically, although scientists previously believed they would remain stable for decades. An accurate picture of the Himalayan glaciers will be available through this.
Earth observation satellites can help action on climate change. For example, data from these satellites can be used in numerical weather predictions (NWP) to predict the weather. Experts use satellite images to support humanitarian efforts around the world.
Satellites can also help with sustainable development. For example, the citizen science project Floating Forest can use LandSat satellite images to help identify different forests.
