Issues like Ram Mandir should not be raised at other places: Mohan Bhagwat

#November 20,2024

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has expressed concern over the resurgence of several temple-mosque disputes in the country. Delivering a speech on ‘Bharat- Vishwaguru’ in Pune on Thursday, Bhagwat said that after the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, some people are under the impression that they can become “leaders of Hindus” by raising such disputes. He advised against raising issues like Ram temple in other places, saying it is unacceptable.

Advocating for an inclusive society, Bhagwat said there is a need to show the world that India can live in harmony, according to PTI.

The RSS chief said, “We have been living in harmony for a long time. If we want to provide this harmony to the world, we have to make a model of it. After the construction of Ram temple, some people think that they can become leaders of Hindus by promoting and raising similar issues in new places. This is not acceptable.”

Mohan Bhagwat did not name any particular place during his speech where issues like temple-mosque have been raised. However, it can be easily understood that he is referring to religious places in places like Sambhal, Ajmer Sharif, Jaunpur. The RSS chief’s comment came when in recent times many demands for locating mosques for the survey of mosques reached the courts. The courts also issued survey orders. During one such survey in Sambhal, there was heavy violence in which four Muslim youths were killed. However, the UP police put the responsibility on the Muslims there. The police took unilateral action and filed FIR against several hundred people. Whereas the facts show that the people who came with the survey team entered the mosque and raised objectionable provocative slogans. The people offering namaz there were beaten up and chased away. After this, the violence started in Sambhal.

On December 12, the Supreme Court issued a nationwide directive, prohibiting all courts from considering new cases or passing orders to survey mosques. Because during such surveys, temple structures were being searched beneath mosques in every city.

During his speech on Thursday, Mohan Bhagwat also said that some groups who came from outside have brought fanaticism with them and they want their old rule to return. He said – “But now the country runs according to the Constitution. In this system, people elect their representatives, who run the government. The days of hegemony are gone.”

Citing the rule of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Bhagwat said his rule was characterised by such bigotry. However, he also pointed out that a descendant of Mughal ruler Bahadur Shah Zafar also banned cow slaughter in 1857. “It was decided that the Ram temple in Ayodhya should be given to Hindus, but the British sensed it and created a rift between the two communities. Since then, the feeling of ‘separatism’ came into existence. As a result, Pakistan came into existence,” Bhagwat said.

He also questioned why the “dominant language” was being used if everyone calls themselves Indian. Bhagwat was referring to English. The RSS is in favour of making Hindi the main language in the entire country, while in South India, no one is ready to accept this view of the RSS.

The RSS chief said, “Who is a minority and who is a majority? Here everyone is equal. It is the tradition of this country that everyone can follow their own worship methods. The only requirement is to live in harmony and follow the rules and laws.” Let us tell you that many contradictory statements of the RSS chief have come to the fore earlier as well. On one hand, he is talking about harmony in the country, on the other hand, people and organizations associated with RSS keep giving statements about establishing an undivided Hindu nation. They keep threatening to kill Muslims.
