#News Bureau November 20,2024

An FIR has been filed against Rahul Gandhi and others in connection with the scuffle in Parliament on Thursday. The BJP had lodged a complaint against them with the Delhi Police. They have been booked under sections related to endangering the life or personal safety of others, intentional hurt, intentionally causing grievous hurt, use of criminal force, criminal intimidation and related sections. Earlier in the day, the BJP had alleged that two of its MPs, Pratap Chandra Sarangi from Balasore in Odisha and Mukesh Rajput from Farrukhabad in UP, were injured after being allegedly pushed by opposition MPs. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed that he was injured when Gandhi pushed a senior BJP member, causing Sarangi to fall.

Earlier, both the BJP and the Congress on Thursday blamed each other over the alleged scuffle outside Parliament. Both sides lodged complaints with the police, accusing each other of assault and misbehavior. The Congress has alleged a conspiracy behind the incident. A delegation of Congress MPs, including women MPs, lodged a counter complaint at the Parliament Street police station. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari alleged a conspiracy behind the incidents, saying, ‘The way a Dalit leader was manhandled day before yesterday and pushed today – it is all a conspiracy.’

Tiwari has said that there are some points of conspiracy in today’s incident-

Our declaration was that we will first go in front of Ambedkar ji’s statue, then go inside the Parliament through Makar Dwar. After that, BJP MPs forcefully occupied Makar Dwar and stopped us from going inside.

Who gave permission to BJP MPs to come with sticks? The banner we were showing did not have sticks.

Who gave permission to the ruling party to block the entire gate?

Pramod Tiwari has said that we were all coming in line, but today the biggest leader of Dalits Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed and fell down. He said that Harijan Act is also made in this case. He said that I am hopeful that action will be taken against them. Mukul Wasnik said, ‘We have come to Parliament Street Police Station with our delegation to register our complaint against the damage done to Kharge ji by BJP MPs. We urge that action should be taken against BJP MPs under the law.’

Union minister Anurag Thakur, leading a delegation of BJP MPs, filed a complaint with the Delhi Police against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi alleging assault and provocation.

Outside the Sansad Marg police station, Thakur said, “We have filed a complaint under sections 109, 115, 117, 125, 131 and 351 of the BNS. Section 109 is attempt to murder, section 117 is intent to cause grievous hurt….”

The BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of pushing 69-year-old BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi during a protest by NDA MPs outside Makar Dwar. According to the BJP, Sarangi and another BJP MP Mukesh Rajput sustained injuries in the incident. Both were admitted to the ICU of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with head injuries.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP MPs of lowering the dignity of Parliament. Kharge, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla alleged that BJP MPs physically pushed him, causing him to lose his balance and injure his knees.

Mallikarjun Kharge said, ‘After insulting Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar ji, Narendra Modi ji is also insulting the dignity of Parliament. BJP MPs were pushed with placards and thick sticks so that the peaceful protest of India Alliance MPs could be stopped, so that their hostility towards Baba Saheb, Parliament, Constitution and democracy is not exposed.’

Congress MPs have demanded an investigation into the incident in a letter to Speaker Om Birla. The letter said, ‘We express deep anguish over the assault on Rahul Gandhi by BJP MPs. This is a clear violation of the privileges given to the Leader of the Opposition.’
