US President Donald Trump has said that PM Modi is likely to visit the USA “sometime in February”. The two leaders had a phone conversation on Monday. According to the White House, Trump and Modi talked about “fair” bilateral trade relations and moving towards deeper India-US cooperation.

The official statement issued by the US said- “Today (Monday), President Donald J. Trump had a fruitful conversation with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders discussed expanding and strengthening cooperation.” In fact, there was a lot of discussion on social media about Modi not being invited to Trump’s swearing-in ceremony. People even made memes on this. Because in the past Modi has described the US President as his friend many times. There were also reports in the media that diplomatic efforts were made from India’s side to invite Modi to the swearing-in ceremony.

The White House said, “The President emphasized the importance of increasing India’s purchases of US-made security equipment and moving toward a fairer bilateral trade relationship.” “Plans for Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the White House were also discussed, underscoring the strength of the friendship and strategic relationship between our countries,” the statement said, according to PTI.

In the weekly press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal referred to India’s ongoing dialogue with the US on matters related to trade and immigration. He expressed hope that both sides are able to negotiate on all issues. Jaiswal said that trade has a special place in the strong and multifaceted India-US relations. The two sides traded goods and services worth US$ 190 billion in 2023, which has reached a record level.
