US immigration policy: Violent clashes in Los Angeles, Trump sends National Guard
#News Bureau June 8,2025
People took to the streets in Los Angeles against Trump’s immigration policy, which led to violent clashes. Many protesters and their leaders have been arrested.
Federal immigration officials arrested more than 44 people in Los Angeles, USA. After this, violent protests erupted. Hundreds of people took to the streets to protest these arrests, after which there were fierce clashes between protesters and police. Police used tear gas and flash-bang grenades to control the situation. Trump has said that he is sending the National Guard to handle the situation.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided three places in Los Angeles. Dozens of people were detained in these raids, including a prominent union leader David Huerta, who was recording the raid. Protesters gathered against these arrests in the Paramount area of Los Angeles and near the federal building, where they pelted stones at officers and threw fireworks. In response, police and border patrol personnel deployed in riot gear resorted to tear gas and sound grenades to disperse the protesters.
Such raids and arrests have increased across the country in recent months under President Donald Trump’s immigration policy. The Trump administration has announced the deployment of the California National Guard in response to these protests, which California Governor Gavin Newsom has described as a “deliberately provocative” move. Local leaders, including Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, have strongly condemned these raids, calling them “repressive and brutal”.
There have also been reports of a car being set on fire and several people being injured during the demonstration. Social organizations and local residents described these raids as part of the Trump administration’s strict immigration policy, which is particularly targeting the Latino community.
Local police and federal agents are trying to control the situation, but tensions remain. Investigators are investigating violence and possible criminal activity during the demonstrations. Citizens have been appealed to maintain peace and obey the law.
In February 2025, thousands of protesters in Los Angeles demonstrated against the Trump administration’s immigration policies as part of the “A Day Without Immigrants” movement. On February 2, about 2,000 people temporarily closed the 101 Freeway while marching from Olvera Street to City Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Protesters waved Mexican and other Latin American flags and chanted slogans such as “No One Is Illegal”.
On February 3, protesters again blocked the 101 Freeway, after which police declared it an “unlawful assembly”. Some protesters threw bottles and rocks at police, who responded with rubber bullets and tear gas. Five police officers were slightly injured, and one person was arrested for assault.
Like the June 2025 events in Los Angeles, the February protests were also against ICE raids, involving road blockages, confrontations with police, and the use of tear gas.
