Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut has once again stirred up controversy. She had suggested on Tuesday that the three agricultural laws that were repealed after the farmer protests should be rolled back. Kangana’s remarks angered the opposition, with the BJP late Tuesday night distancing itself from her comments and saying Kangana Ranaut is “not authorised” to make such statements on behalf of the party.
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said in a video message late Tuesday night that “this is Kangana Ranaut’s “personal statement” and does not reflect the party’s view on the farm bills. Gaurav Bhatia said- “BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement on the farm bills withdrawn by the central government is going viral on social media platforms. I want to make it clear that this statement is her personal statement. Kangana Ranaut is not authorised to make such a statement on behalf of the BJP and it does not portray the BJP’s view on the farm bills. We reject this statement.”
Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut responded to this at 12.15 am on Tuesday night through a tweet on X. Kangana Ranaut wrote on the social media platform X- “Of course, my views on the farmer laws are personal and they do not represent the party’s stand on those bills. Thank you. “
Earlier, the actress had told the media, “I know this statement can be controversial, but the three farm laws must be rolled back. The farmers themselves should demand it.”
The statement did not go down well with the opposition as Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja criticised the actress, calling her a “habitual controversialist”. “I think she is mentally unstable. Some people are used to creating controversies and their statements benefit the BJP. She talks about farmers, Punjab, Emergency and Rahul Gandhi. There are other MPs who never make such comments,” Raja said.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also shared Ranaut’s video on Twitter and said, “More than 750 farmers have been martyred while protesting against the three black farm laws. Efforts are being made to bring them back.” “We will never let this happen. Haryana will respond first,” she said in an apparent reference to the assembly elections in Haryana.
Congress media and publicity department chief Pawan Khera also shared the video on Twitter and said that this is the BJP’s “real thinking. How many times will you betray the farmers, double-faced people?”
BJP upset with Kangana
Notably, this is not the first time. Last month, Kangana had claimed that the farmers’ protest is a result of a “Bangladesh-like situation” in India and several murders and rapes were reported from the farmers’ protest sites. The BJP distanced itself from Kangana Ranaut’s remarks and said she is “not authorised” to make such statements on behalf of the party. Last month too, the BJP had distanced itself from the Mandi MP’s statement about the farmers’ movement and also asked her to refrain from making such statements in future.
