Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a strong message in his address to the nation by taking a tough stand on terrorism. Know what he said on terrorism, national security and unity of the country
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong message to Pakistan during his national address on Monday, declaring that “terror and talks cannot go together, terror and trade cannot happen together, and blood and water cannot flow together.” His remarks came in the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and the subsequent launch of Operation Sindoor by Indian forces.
Reaffirming India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, the Prime Minister warned Pakistan of severe consequences if it failed to dismantle terror infrastructure operating from its territory.
Referring to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians, PM Modi called it “one of the most brutal faces of terrorism.” He added, “The Pahalgam attack was a personal wound for me. The terrorists destroyed the vermilion of our sisters — so India destroyed the bastions of terror.”
In response to the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terrorist hideouts across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists, including key figures behind major past attacks.
PM Modi described Operation Sindoor as a symbol of India’s new policy against terrorism. He said, ‘On May 7, the whole world saw India’s resolve turning into action. Our army carried out precise attacks on terrorist hideouts, in which universities of global terrorism like Bhawalpur and Muridke were destroyed.’ He stressed that this operation was not only a symbol of destroying terrorist infrastructure, but also broke the morale of the terrorists.
Modi also made it clear that India has temporarily stopped its action against terrorists in Pakistan, but future actions will depend on Pakistan’s attitude. He said, ‘We will judge every step of Pakistan on the basis of its intention.’
In his address, the Prime Minister also mentioned India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty. He said, ‘Blood and water cannot flow together.’ This step was taken on 23 April 2025 after the Pahalgam attack, which will have a direct impact on irrigation and drinking water supply in Pakistan’s Punjab and Sindh regions. India has decided to stop the flow of water from the western rivers Indus, Chenab, and Jhelum under the treaty, which is being considered a major setback for Pakistan’s economy.
Let us tell you that this time, India completely suspended the treaty, which was signed in 1960 under the mediation of the World Bank and remained intact despite three wars.
The Prime Minister warned Pakistan in clear words that if it does not end terrorist activities from its soil, it will destroy itself. He said,
The way Pakistan’s army and government are promoting terrorism, it will one day destroy Pakistan itself. If Pakistan has to survive, it will have to dismantle its terrorist infrastructure.
Modi also took a tough stand against nuclear blackmail. He said, ‘India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail. Terrorist structures operating under nuclear blackmail will be India’s target.’
The Prime Minister praised the bravery and unity of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Border Security Forces. He said, ‘Our forces and security agencies are on high alert. India is ready to take bold decisions every time to protect its citizens.’ He also praised indigenous defense equipment, which played a key role in Operation Sindoor.
