Quoting a senior party functionary, PTI reported that the new BJP president could be appointed by the end of February. Party sources said that at this time the party’s organisational elections are expected to be over by mid-January. The voting process is about to be completed in more than half of the state units. After that, the process of electing a new national president will begin which will be completed by the end of February.

A senior leader told PTI that the tenure of about 60 percent of the BJP state unit presidents has ended and appointments are likely to be made in their place by the middle of next month.

The BJP constitution states that organisational elections in at least half of its state units must be completed before the process of electing a national president begins. “We hope that the new BJP president will take charge by the end of February,” the functionary said.

Though the term of the party president is for three years, Nadda was given an extension in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which the BJP-led NDA alliance is returned to power for its third term under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

RSS has a say in the appointment of BJP’s national president. RSS appoints a person of its choice as the president. But Modi and Shah are known as the new high command of BJP. Now only Modi and Shah take the decision. Modi and Shah want to appoint only their trusted person on this post. Before Maharashtra elections, RSS had put in a lot of effort for Fadnavis but Modi-Shah did not let the Sangh have its way.
